In big music news, we are thrilled to announce the 2023 lineup for one of our most exciting FREE events in the festival, This Land, presented by University of Newcastle. Featuring local alumni artists alongside acclaimed First Nations musicians, this concert is set to light up Museum Park.

Winner of Triple J Unearthed High’s Indigenous Initiative Becca Hatch, alongside Denni, Maanyung & self-produced singer-songwriter Blanche are among the nationally renowned First Nations acts on the bill for This Land.
Celebrate the sound, soul and spirit of the many nations of Australia and join us for this free event, proudly presented by University of Newcastle.

Kamilaroi-Samoan artist, Becca Hatch is carving her own path in the contemporary R&B, dance-pop scene. After winning Triple J Unearthed High’s Indigenous Initiative in 2017 she has continued to build her artistic reputation. |

Blanche is a self produced singer-songwriter, his latest release, “We All Go a Little Mad Sometimes” is an intimate mixture of Sweeping orchestral moments and Spanish-influenced guitar. |

Civic Bar Beats: University of Newcastle Student Showcase
This UoN showcase is the perfect opportunity to enjoy some of our talented local artists. Shayanne Irwin, Mishayla, Bree Rusev, Jesse Morrison and Abbi Yeo Duo will be performing a mixture of original and cover music. It's the perfect starter to Aussie band Boy & Bear who will performing at the Civic Theatre later that evening.
This is a collaborative student showcase between University of Newcastle and Civic Theatre Newcastle.

Ngiarrenumba Burrai (Our Country)
Ngiarrenumba Burrai (Our Country) is a space that centres Awabakal cultural practice, people and stories.
Free workshops will run throughout New Annual festival, including language, art, clap sticks, dance, bush tucker, tools and spears.
University of Newcastle Associate Lecturer Shellie Smith is a co-producer of workshops and a proud Awabakal woman.

Be captivated by the vibrant work of internationally renowned photographer and former University of Newcastle student, Atong Atem in her first Newcastle exhibition, held in an iconic venue. The exhibition presents migrant stories & obscured layers of history on a cinematic scale.
