Kick off New Annual with a live performance by one of Australia's leading voices in Hip Hop, Gomeroi artist Kobie Dee, described as "the voice of a generation". Come early for free oyster tastings, courtesy of local restaurant Thermidor.
One of Australia's leading voices in hip hop, Gomeroi artist Kobie Dee, will headline Friday Night Sounds as the only Newcastle stop on his 2024 National Tour after releasing his highly anticipated EP: Chapter 26.
An award-winning and AIR Awards Nominee with an innate gift for storytelling and connecting with young people, Kobie Dee has been named as "The Voice of a Generation" by GQ Australia, and has performed nationally at VIVID LIVE, SXSW SYDNEY, LISTEN OUT and BIGSOUND.
Opening for Kobie Dee is singer, songwriter and storyteller, Maanyung, a proud Aboriginal man with strong connections to the Gumbaynggir and Yaegl nations. Maanyung has graced stages from Dark Mofo to Melbourne Fashion Week, where his emotive and powerful vocals have captivated audiences.

With an innate gift for storytelling and connecting with young people, the 26-year-old Gomeroi artist from Maroubra in South Sydney, Bidjigal Land is an exciting voice in Australian hip hop. As an artist, Kobie Dee is deeply engaged in his community through performance and community work, and his passion for his culture and people is inspiring new generations. In his highly anticipated EP, Chapter 26, the artist navigates vulnerability and strength to beat self-doubt and find confidence in his experiences as a young man to fatherhood, rapper to artist and role model to leader.

Maanyung is an artist with strong ties to the Gumbaynggirr and Yaegl nations. Passing on lifelong teachings of culture from his family and mentors, Maanyung shares his culture and traditional Aboriginal values of respect, love, care, sharing, looking after each other and our Mother Earth. Maanyung sings in his ancestors' language; connecting him back with Country and spirit to deliver his music.
