Passionate open water swimmer and award-winning ocean and coast-life photographer, Penelope Green presents a series of joyous, moody, and captivating photographs celebrating Newcastle’s coastline and the city’s dynamic ocean swimming community. Hung along the fenceline at Dixon Park Beach, this free, public exhibition can be enjoyed whenever you have a moment to visit this incredible section of coastline, morning to night.

As a country kid who had limited access to the coast, Penelope never takes the sea for granted. Her daily swims are an opportunity to reflect on the ways the sea challenges, uplifts, and ultimately connects us.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Penelope Green – AKA @snappylapper – is a journalist, author and photographer based in Newcastle. Penelope is a recent winner of the National Emerging Art Prize (Photography) and is a member of the WHIP collective (Women of the Hunter in Photography). Penny grew up in the bush, where the sea was a faraway, holiday treat. Now calling Newcastle home, Penny immerses in the sea daily, be it swimming with the ocean swimming group, the Bar Beach Seahorses, or enjoying the coastline with her sons. Penny’s favourite season is winter for all the icy endorphin highs shared with community. Whether in the brine or on shore, Penny captures the moments when the sea challenges, lifts and ultimately binds us all.
