SOAK: Live at the Baths transforms Newcastle's beloved Ocean Baths into an intimate concert venue across five sunset performances during New Annual.

World-renowned beatboxer Tom Thum joins forces with Filipino and Murrawarri artist DOBBY and leading jazz artist Freyja Garbett for a performance exclusive to New Annual. Each artist explores water's power and fragility in their individual work, but together by the ocean they create something entirely new. Expect an evening of hip hop, jazz and jaw dropping musicality where the boundaries between voice, rhythm, and melody merge against the backdrop of Newcastle's iconic ocean pool.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

TOM THUM

"Tom Thum appears to have swallowed an entire orchestra and several backing singers" - The Guardian (UK)
"There are not enough superlatives to describe the wonder of this beatboxing virtuoso - I am still trying to figure out how he got those sounds out of his mouth"  - The Daily Telegraph (UK)
"The mic master seems to have an orchestra living in his throat: trumpet blasts, guitar strums and samples from classic songs including Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" effortlessly spout from his mouth" - Time Out, NY

DOBBY
Winner of both ARIA and FBi Smac Awards, DOBBY is a rapper, drummer, composer and producer and an all round force of nature. Proudly identifying as Filipino and Murrawarri, DOBBY's roots run deep in the Aboriginal lands of Brewarrina and Weilmoringle in NSW. His debut album WARRANGU: River Story was shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize in 2024.
