SOAK: Live at the baths
SOAK: Live at the Baths is a series of sunset music performances at the iconic Newcastle Ocean Baths during New Annual. Over the course of five special nights, it’ll become home to an array of local and globally renowned music talent.
SOAK will kick off on Sat 27 Sep, with dust, a local post punk quintet who are set to be the 'next big thing' in indie rock. Fresh from appearances at London’s Pitchfork Festival and SXSW, and sold out shows at King St Bandroom. dust are supported by all female post punk band Limo.
On Sunday 28 Sep, the exploration of themes around water conservation and music brings together arguably the world’s most incredible beatboxer, Tom Thum, with Filipino and Murrawarri artist DOBBY and leading jazz artist Freyja Garbett. Separately their music touches on the power and preciousness of water, but together their performance will be extraordinary.
Readers of ACOTAR will be entranced at the arrival of global phenomenon and pop violinist Joel Sunny, as he creates an other-worldly experience by the sea on Thu 2 Oct.
New Annual welcomes a first of its kind on Fri 3 Oct, when four of Australia’s brightest R&B and hip-hop artists create something of a supergroup for a special performance alongside a live band and string section. Proud Maori woman, A.Girl joins forces with Dean Brady, descendant of Gugu Yalanji and Birrigubba people, and Samoan Australian, via Central Coast BOY SODA. The glue that connects them is acclaimed producer Finbar Stuart, as they deliver unmissable soul and hip hop at sunset with an ocean backdrop.
For one beautiful Saturday night on 4 Oct, we'll dance as the sun goes down! Legendary local DJ jayteehazard joins DJ GNGR in the most unique pool party you’ll ever see, while you shake off the winter and welcome the coming summer at Newcastle’s iconic Ocean Baths.
